The usual ways, and their problems
| Route | Works well for | Problems |
|---|---|---|
| Labour contractor (thekedar) | Large gangs at short notice | Commission, little control over who turns up, wage disputes |
| Word of mouth | Trusted repeat workers | Slow, limited to who you already know |
| Labour chowk | Same-day helpers | No verification, no record of skills |
| Job portals | Engineers and office staff | Few skilled tradespeople use them |
What to check before you hire
- Identity. Verify identity, ideally through Aadhaar-based verification rather than a photocopy.
- Trade and experience. Ask for the type of sites worked on: residential, commercial interiors, industrial, infrastructure.
- Wage agreed in writing. State the daily wage, working hours, overtime and the number of days.
- Payment to the worker's own account. Pay directly to the worker's bank account or UPI, and keep a record.
- Attendance. Daily attendance is the basis for both wages and labour-law records.
- Compliance. Depending on your project size and state, contract-labour licensing, BOCW registration, PF/ESI and minimum-wage rules may apply.
Hiring site engineers and supervisors
For civil, MEP and electrical engineers, supervisors and quantity surveyors, look beyond degrees: ask about the size and type of projects they have handled, their familiarity with measurement and billing, and their software skills. A short practical test, such as checking a BOQ against a drawing, tells you more than an interview.
Hiring directly with the Orbit apps
QuantProc's Orbit apps connect contractors with verified workers and professionals near the site:
- Orbit Sahyog (employers): post a job with the trade, place and wage; search workers by trade and city and engineers by discipline; send offers; keep attendance.
- Orbit Shram Shakti (workers): workers choose their trade and the wage they want and get offers nearby, in their own language.
- Orbit Pravin (professionals): engineers, supervisors and site professionals find openings in civil, MEP, electrical, site management and QS.
When the worker accepts the final offer, the deal locks with a deal code. Wages are paid straight to the worker's bank or UPI and recorded against it. The money never passes through QuantProc. Workers pay nothing; employers pay a platform charge shown before the offer is sent.

Frequently asked questions
How can I find a mason or electrician near my site quickly?
Post the job with the trade, place and daily wage on a hiring app such as Orbit Sahyog, so verified workers near the site see it and can apply the same day, or invite workers directly by trade and city.
Should I pay workers in cash?
Paying directly to the worker's own bank account or UPI is safer for both sides. It creates a record for wages and labour-law compliance and avoids disputes.
Do workers have to pay to use Orbit Shram Shakti?
No. The worker and professional apps are free. Employers pay a platform charge on the deal value.
